Shampoos

What shampoo should I wash my dog in?

We recommend and use only hypoallergenic shampoos. For the normal dog with no problems we recommend Dermcare Natural Shampoo (with conditioner combined).

For the dog with a slight itch or sensitive skin we recommend Aloveen Shampoo and Aloveen Conditioner.

For the dog with smelly skin or flaky skin we recommend Malaseb Shampoo and Aloveen Conditioner.

What is the right way to wash a dog?

Dogs are not little humans. It is best to use cold water (or if the dog has normal skin then it is okay to slightly warm the water). The shampoo should be applied in a circular action and massaged well into the skin. The product then should be allowed to “stay on” for around 5 minutes and then rinsed off very well.

Do NOT towel down or artificially dry the dog – allow the dog to shake most of the water off and then apply the conditioner. Do NOT rinse off the conditioner.

How often should I wash my cat?

We do not recommend washing cats unless a vet has given you instructions to do so. We recommend anyone washing a cat has good health insurance for the person washing the animal.

How do I stop my dog from rolling in the dirt after I have washed it?

Keep a good lead on the dog and go for a walk with the dog until it is dry. If you cannot take the dog for a walk then tie the dog up for around 5 to 10 minutes to allow the dog to semi dry. We recommend you stay with the dog until it is semi dry – so why not take it for a walk and then everyone is winning.
