ISOLATION WARD FOR CONTAGIOUS ILLNESSES

We have a separate ward for animals who are suffering from diseases that are contagious. This ward is completely separate from the rest of the hospital and all air entering this ward is prevented from flowing to the rest of the hospital. Any staff member entering this ward when there is a contagious illness being treated must wear special clothing and footwear. The staff member must also wear gloves when handling the animals to prevent the problem being spread to our other animals in the hospital. The attending staff member must also scrub their hands, arms and any other part of their body that has come in contact with the infected animal.

All patients in this ward are treated with the same care and attention we use on any other patient in our hospital – we just do not want to spread the problem to any other animal. This means all care and attention is adhered to make sure that the problem is not spread to any other animal
